Report.

Despite it being another cold and occasionally snowy week Carsington Water has fished well. The winds have mainly been from the north or the west with the best of the temperatures getting up to about 15 degrees although it definitely felt colder than that! Even so there have good numbers of midge hatching whenever the wind dropped a bit.

The best rainbow this week is an unofficial Fishery Record! This stunning 7lb over wintered rainbow trout fell to James Tearle, who was fishing on a catch & release ticket, he weighed it in his weigh net and returned it to the water to fight another day. James was fishing a floating line with a team of black buzzers off the front edge of North Island when he felt the fish take. As he tightened into the take and the fish took off he realised he was into a good fish. The trout lead James a merry dance before eventually succumbing to the net. Well done to James, not bad for your first day out of the season!

The Best Brown this week goes to Ian Ritchie. This was another cracking grown on, over wintered trout weighing in at 3lb 8oz. Ian was also fishing a team of buzzers on a floating line, and he was using a bung and a very supple leader to allow the buzzers to drift about in a very natural manner. As Ian and his boat partner Paul Bebb were drifting along Tower Bank when Ian’s bung disappeared under the surface and he struck!  Ian’s rod then bent over hard as the Brownie made a dash for deeper water. After a hard fought battle Ian finally brought the trout to the boat to be netted before returning it.

Top spots for the week were Tower Bank, North Island, Fishtail Creek and Stones Island from the boats and Millfields Point and Upperfields Bay from the bank.

The best flies were Black Buzzers, Black & Green lures, Montana’s, and Damsel nymphs.

Tight lines for 2008
