Report:
Well finally the wind did something different this week! It actually swung round to the West for a couple of days mid week; it also blew up quite strong bringing white horses to the water. This appears to have stirred trout into action bringing an excellent rod average of 4.59 this week. The fish have remained high in the water with floaters and intermediates again being the best lines. Daddies and hoppers have scored well as have bumbles and bibio’s. There a few fry feeding fish around now and boobies and minkies have both worked well to tempt these trout.
Best Rainbow this week goes to Mr D Lockett who landed a cracking 5lb 8oz rainbow from Fishtail Creek. Mr Lockett was using a Gold Head Damsel on a floating line and was drifting on to the weed beds on the North bank of Fishtail when this monster came out of the weeds and snatched his fly. He had a great battle to keep it clear of the weeds and bring it safely to his boat.
Vince King has the honours for the best Brown this week. Vince captured a superb, fully finned grown on brown trout of 3lb. This resident trout fell to a black booby fished on a medium sink line. Vince was drifting out from the dam wall towards buoy 8 when he hooked into this fine example of a Carsington Water Brown Trout which took full advantage of the deep water in front of the dam to put its head down and run hard, putting a big bend in Vince’s rod. After several arm aching minutes it finally surfaced and Vince was able to slip the net under it.
Top spots for the boats this week were Dam Wall, Mouth of Fishtail, Sitch Plantation, Millfields and North Island.
The best flies were Bibio, Bumbles, Daddies Black or Black and Green lures, Boobies, Traditional Wets and Damsels
Tight lines for 2009
