Report:

The weather has once again been steady this week with the wind coming from the South/ South West all week and varying from near flat calm to around a force 4. We have had mainly cloudy days this week so the fish have been well up in the water. Floating lines; sink tips and intermediates have done the most damage this week. Small black dries, hoppers and Daddies have all worked well off the top while traditional wets and nymphs have worked sub surface.

This week saw Carsington Water Host the England Ladies National Final. 19 competitors took part to try and earn a place on the England team for next year. The day was a tremendous success with no one blanking and 12 of the competitors bagging their full 6 fish limit. Overall there were 92 trout caught giving a rod average of 4.84 for the competition and the average weight per trout was 2lb 3oz. (For the full results sheet please see our web site: www.moretoexperience.co.uk/carsingtonfishery)

The top three ladies were:

  1. Elaine Sherry with a total bag (inc. time bonus) of 16lb 4oz
  2. Sue Sissions with a total bag (inc. time bonus) of 15lb 12oz
  3. Hilary Tomlinson with a total bag (inc. time bonus) of 15lb 8oz

Best fish of the day went to Scarlett Hodgson who landed a cracking 4lb 15oz rainbow to help her qualify for the team. Scarlett took her big fish with an orange blob booby fished on a slime line in front of North Island,

Congratulations to all the qualifiers who made the team. We wish them all the best in representing their country next year.

Best Rainbow this week goes to Trevor Heseltine who tempted a superb 5lb 8oz fish using a black hopper twitched back through the surface on a floating line, also in front of North Island.

Athell Donaldson landed the best brown this week. A lovely conditioned fish of 1lb 10oz which took a red buzzer fished on a floating line across the mouth of Fishtail creek.

Top spots for the boats this week were Mouth of Fishtail, Sitch Plantation, North Island, Hall wood and Millfileds.

Top Spots were Mouth of Fishtail, Sitch Plantation, Hall wood, North Island, Dam wall and Millfields Bay.

The best flies were Bibio, Orange Blob booby, Hoppers, daddies, Traditional Wets and Hares Ears

Tight lines for 2009
