Report:
The weather has been steady this week with the wind coming from the South/ South West all week and varying from near flat calm to around a force 4. There have been some bright days and some cloudy days so the fish have been up and down quite a bit this week. As the fish have been up and down, so have the tactic’s. On bright days DI3 and DI5 lines have proved the most effective but when the skies have clouded over the floaters, sink tips and intermediates have done the trick. The flies for fishing dep have primarily been lures and blobs while those for fishing the top layers have been more imitative, such as nymphs and traditional wets.
Regular angler Brian Nadin has done it for the second week in a row! He landed this week’s best rainbow, a stunning Trout of exactly 7lb. And to prove his diverse angling skills, after using a mini blob on a sinking line last week, he fooled this cracking fish with a small CDC bibio fished dry on the surface. Brian was fishing from his boat in the mouth of Fishtail Creek when the water bulged and opened under his fly and the fly disappeared. Once hooked this monster fish gave Brian the run around diving deep and circling the boat before coming up and making several good runs before Brian was able to bring it safely to the net.
Best brown this week goes to Dave Morris who captured a superb grown on brown of 3lb. Dave tempted his prize brownie with a team of green diawl bachs fished on a fast glass line. Dave was drifting out from the dam wall past No. 1 Buoy towards the sailing club Island when he hooked into this lovely brown trout. This was the best of 8 browns for Dave on the day.
Top spots for the boats this week were Dam Wall, Mouth of Fishtail, Sitch Plantation, Middle and Hall Woods and North Island.
The best flies were Bibio, Diawl Bach, Black or Black and Green lures, Orange Blob, Traditional Wets and Hares Ears
Tight lines for 2009
