Report:
Mixed conditions this last week have led to some varied days fishing, light winds and sunny conditions at the beginning of the week together with quite high water temperatures, have made fishing difficult. Best bags being attained by those fishermen using wet flies/lures fished on intermediate and sinking lines. However some cracking fish many between 4-5lb have been landed this week.
Carsington regular Brian Nadin landed this week’s best rainbow. It was a magnificent resident rainbow of 8lb 7oz. Brian who prefers to fish dry flies when possible, had resorted to a sinking line with a mini orange blob and was drifting along the dam wall when this monster attacked his fly, and took off nearly taking Brian with it. Brian soon regained the initiative and eventually landed this superb example, one of the few fish over 8lb caught this year.
Best brown honours went to another Carsington regular Phil Harding, Phil was drifting along the main basin using a damsel on a DI 5 when he picked up a lovely 3lb 10 oz brownie in superb condition, one of seven fish caught by Phil that day including a rainbow of 4lb 15oz.
For those that are not aware, our colleague Rich Bates had the misfortune to break his ankle two weeks ago whilst out walking his dog, it looks like he will be out of action for the rest of the season. We are all hoping he will make a speedy recovery.
Tony Higton has kindly stepped in to help us out, a familiar face to a lot of the Carsington regulars, Tony having worked here many times before. Tony has a wealth of knowledge of Carsington and is always happy to advise and assist any newcomers. So thanks and welcome back Tony.
Top spots for the boats this week were Dam Wall, Mouth of Fishtail , North Island, Flat Island and the Main Basin. Hall Wood
The best flies were Black/green Montanas, Goldhead Damsels, Boobies, Orange Blobs, Cats Whiskers and Minkies
Tight lines for 2009
