Pete Eville with his 6lb 12oz Resident Rainbow
Report:
Them wind has mostly been from the South/ South East this week although it did swing to the West for a couple of days in the middle of the week. Overhead conditions were quite good for the early part of the week but it got brighter for the later part of the week. This did not seem to put the fish off though with most of the fish being taken in the top 6 foot. Nymphs have made a come back this week with diawl bach’s and hares ears both featuring well on the returns. Boobies have also featured well when in conjunction with nymphs on the washing line method with many anglers saying that trout were coming up to take the booby off the top. The fish seem to have split to the top and bottom of the wind with both the dam end and the north end fishing well this week.
Pete Eville landed this week’s best rainbow. It was a stunning resident rainbow of 6lb 12oz. This fully finned, well silvered fish fell to a black and pink taddy fished on a DI3 line. Pete was drifting in the middle of the North end near Flat Island when this monster snatched his fly, bent his rod in two and took off and as Pete put it “It interrupted my peace & tranquillity, not that I’m complaining!”
M Holland landed this week’s best brown with a lovely 2lb fish which took a hares ears fished on a floating line whilst drifting out from the dam wall across the main basin. This was the best of 2 browns in a bag of 9 trout for Mr Holland.
Top spots for the boats this week were Dam Wall, Mouth of Millfields, North Island, Flat Island and the Main Basin.
Top spots from the bank were Millfields Point, Upperfields Bay and Simpsons Bay
The best flies were Boobies, Diawl Bach, Hares Ears, Damsels, Black & green lures and Zulu.
Tight lines for 2009
