Report

Welcome to the penultimate fishing report from Carsington Water, our season will finish on Sunday 19th Oct. So this week is your last chance to get out there for a last chance at those superb Carsington Trout!

It has been a decent week this week with light S/SW winds and good cloud cover most of the time. The temperature has been very pleasant for the time of year reaching high’s of 16 degree’s. The fish have been well up in the water with the consensus being the top 6 ft. Fast sinking lines are generally going to deep and getting underneath the fish. Fry patterns are still the best flies, with black being the outstanding colour.

Conditions were excellent For the Wateraid Charity Match on Thursday with a slight southerly breeze and cloudless skies. Sponsor Tony Banks representing Morrison Utility Services had a good day taking the biggest fish of the day award with a 4lb 4oz rainbow. Tony makes a habit of collecting this trophy winning the same prize in last years competition. Tony shared the honours for the best rainbow this week with Nick Brown who also landed a superb rainbow of 4lb 4oz. Unfortunately I do not know what either angler used to tempt their excellent fish.

The Environment Agency’s team of Adam Larbalestier and Ben Bayliss also had a red letter day with Adam taking the Top Individual prize with seven fish for 16lb 15oz and with Ben took the team trophy with a combined 10 fish to the boat for 25lb 4oz..

Adam also landed the best brown of the week a stunning fully finned Trout of 5lb 9oz (weighed and returned). This cracking fish fell to a small black minky fished on an intermediate line whilst drifting past number 7 buoy.

The results from the Water Aid Charity Match sponsored by Morrison Utility Services and hosted by Severn Trent Water are as follows:

Largest Fish - Tony Hanks, Morrison Utility Services - 4lb 4ozs

Winning Individual - Adam Larbalestier, Environment Agency - 16lb 15ozs

Winning Team - Environment Agency, Adam Larbalestier & Ben Bayliss - 25lb 4ozs

2nd - Northumbrian Water, Alistair Baker & Peter Pattinson - 18lb

3rd - May Guerney, Kevin Molloy & Peter Copsey - 10lb 7ozs

Top spots for the week were the Buoy’s 6 & 7, across the mouth Fishtail Creek, Buoy 2, the Dam, Brown Ale Bay and drifts across the Main Basin from the boats and Millfields Point from the bank.

The best flies were Black Minky, Dry Bibio, Damsel, Cormorant, Dabblers, Orange Blob, Black Buzzer, Diawl Bach and Black & Green Fritz.

Tight lines for 2008
