Report
Hooray hooray, while it may not quite be an Indian summer it has at least been decent weather this week! In fact the weekend was really quite nice! The Wind has been from the South or South west apart from one day when it swung 180 to come from the North West but even this big change did not affect the fishing. Temperatures have been average for the time of year varying between 14 and 18 degree’s. The fishing has been excellent this week with a rod average of 4.5 and many cracking fish over 4lb being taken. Most of the fishing has been top of the water with floating lines and dries or nymphs or wets. The best area’s remain similar to the previous couple of weeks with Millfields Bay and Upperfields bay fishing well as well as number 5 buoy and drifts across the middle.
Honours for the best rainbow this week are shared. Both Mr D Sherriff and Mr James caught a superb trout of 5lb 8oz. Unfortunately Mr James did not tell us where or what he caught his top rainbow on but Mr Sherriff caught his drifting past number 5 buoy. He was using a team of nymphs on a floating line and retrieving just slightly faster than his drift. His big fish picked out his cruncher and the take was, as is often the case with big fish, a gentle tightening of the line. But once hooked there was no mistaking this was a biggy!
Tony Wilton claims first place for the biggest brown this week with a stunning grown on brown of 3lb 2oz. Tony was also using a floating line but used a damsel to tempt his big brown. Fishing from a boat in Shinningford Creek Tony was using a figure 8 retrieve to tempt his fish. This brown was the best of 4 browns that Tony took and the best fish in his bag of 6.
Top spots for the week were the Buoy 5 & across the mouth Fishtail Creek, Millfields bay, Buoy 6 in Upperfields Bay and drifts across the Main Basin from the boats and Millfields Point from the bank.
The best flies were Dry Bibio, Damsel, Cruncher Nymph, Sedges, Daddy Long Legs, Viva, Kate McLaren, Claret Bumble, Cats whisker and Muddlers
Tight lines for 2008
