Report
I am fed up writing about the rain! Yet again the weather has been wet, so wet in fact that the reservoir has come up again! The wind has mainly been from the SW and W and has not been too strong. Temperatures have ranged from a chilly 13 to a cool 16 this week, however there is an upside to all this. With a rod average of very nearly 5 fish per rod this week the fishing is good! There has not been one outstanding method this week. Everything from dries to blobs has caught fish. Mostly the fish seem to have been in the top 10 feet anywhere from the middle of the reservoir to the edges of the weed beds.
Alan Dawson has the best rainbow of the week with a superb fish of 4lb 8oz. This cracking fish fell to an Orange fritz fished on a floating line. Alan was drifting from out past buoy 5 all the way in to the north shore of Fishtail creek. He was some 150yds off the shore when his prize fish snaffled his fly.
The best brown of the week goes to Trevor Heseltine. Trevor was drifting along the weed beds off Half Moon Field using a slow sink line and a team of nymphs to tempt fish out from the weeds. His superb 2lb 12oz brownie was the best of the 3 browns he caught, he also took 5 rainbows for a bag of 8 fish in total. All of which fell to slow fished nymphs.
Top spots for the week were the Main Basin, Buoy 5 & across the mouth Fishtail Creek, Upperfields Bay, Millfields bay and the weed beds off Half Moon Field from the boats and Millfields Point from the bank.
The best flies were Dry Bibio, Gold Head Damsel, Black Blob, Orange Fritz, White Fry patterns, Nymphs, and Diawl Bach’s.
Tight lines for 2008
