Report

Well August continues to be wet and cold with the best temperatures being around 20 degrees. The winds have been up to a force 4 with occasional gusts up to force 6, mainly from the S & SW.  The weekend had the best of the weather this week with some sunshine mixed with decent cloud cover and steady breezes.  The main tactic is still white lures fished on Intermediate or medium sink lines any where between 5ft and 10ft deep out across the middle and the along the dam wall or over the edges of the drop offs.

The best rainbow this week goes to Colin Street who landed a superb rainbow trout of 4lb 12oz on a White Fritz. This grown on fish was the best of 4 fish for Colin, all of which fell to his white fritz which he was fishing quite deep with a slow retrieve. Unfortunately Colin did not say where he found his fish on his return.

Philip White was the captor of this week’s best brown. Philip landed a stunning fully finned grown on brown of 3lb 12oz whilst drifting past Sailing Club Island. Philip was fishing outside the weed beds on the drop off, using an intermediate line with a team of 3 and using a slow figure 8 retrieve with the occasional twitch or pull thrown in to mix it up a bit. Philip’s cracking fish took a 9 to 1 fly which is a pattern that Philip ties especially for Carsington, Philip also caught on skinny Cormorants and Damsels. Philip spooned the brown and found that it was stuffed with perch fry whilst the 3lb rainbow that he also landed had mostly being feeding on snails.

Top spots for the week were the Deep water across the main basin, Hall Wood, Fishtail Creek, Sailing Club Island, The Dam Wall and Millfields Bay from the boats and Millfields Point from the bank.

The best flies were White Lures, Gold Head Damsel, 9 to 1, Black Nymph, Soldier Palmer and Black Dabbler.

Tight lines for 2008
