Report

The weather has been absolutely dreadful this week with the winds mostly from the SE the temperature has stayed low and there has been plenty of rain. In fact so much rain that we had to bring the Jetty back in again as the water level rose! One advantage of all this unseasonable weather has been to bring the fish on and up in the water. Although some of the best bags have still been caught using sinking lines and big lures there have been plenty of good bags taken using floating lines and smaller flies. Mr Craig Davies even took 6 fish using dry fly. He tempted his 6 trout using Red Bob’s Bits fished dry in Millfields Bay, the best of which was a lovely 2lb 12oz rainbow.

The best rainbow this week goes to John Scragg who took a cracking 4lb rainbow trout while drifting across the main basin using a floating line and small white lures. John was just using a steady retrieve of 2 foot pulls when this prize fish walloped his fly and took off! It was the best of a bag of 7 trout for John.

Mr A Langley landed the best Brown this week. It was a stunning fish weighing in at 3lb 4oz. Mr Langley was drifting out from the dam wall using an intermediate line with a Whiskey fly on the point. It was this Whiskey Fly that the Brownie took. Good to see the old flies still work!

A special mention this week for Mr I Crair who landed a monster perch that was estimated at around 4lb! This huge fish took his gold head damsel as he twitched it back on a floating line while drifting across the mouth of Fishtail Creek. This Perch was a personal best for Mr Crair and a fishery record for Carsington Water. So congratulations to Mr Crair!

Top spots for the week were the Deep water across the main basin, Buoy 8 out from the Dam, Sitch Plantation, and Millfields Bay from the boats and Millfields Point from the bank.

The best flies were White Lures, Red Bob’s Bits, Damsel, Boobies, Gold Head Montana and Cats Whisker.

Tight lines for 2008
