Report
To say that we have had a bit of rain this last week would be an understatement! Many fishermen enduring mini-monsoons that have swept across the reservoir during the week, this has made the fishing challenging to say the least. The reservoir levels have remained stable and the temperature of the water has now risen to 19 degrees. The wind has been coming from our normally predominant South to South West direction. The warmer water temperatures mean the fish are moving away from the margins during the day and fish are starting to be picked up by drifting across the centre of the reservoir
A T Baggaley from Lowdham caught this week’s best brown that weighed in at 3lb 12 oz. Mr Baggaley caught his fish using a tadpole on a sinking line whilst drifting across the centre. Mr Hyde from Whitefield took the best rainbow weighing in at 4lb 12oz caught on a buzzer.
A reminder to everyone that from 20th July to 25th July, fishing during the hours 8.30am to 17.30pm will be restricted to the northern part of the reservoir past the line of orange bouys. This is due to Carsington Water hosting the NNSA’s National Junior Sailing Regatta. We have and will be however, stocking heavily in this area prior to the event. We will be holding our Open Day with the England Ladies Team here at Carsington Water on Sunday August 3rd. It will be held on the Little Buds area between the Visitor Centre and the Watersports Building. There will be fly tying demonstrations, Casting clinics/ tuition and casting demonstrations, an entomology display by Derby County Angling Club as well as a casting competition.
There will also be an open fishing competition on the day. There will be prizes down to 10th place in the competition and all proceeds from the day will go to help support the Ladies Team. Entry for the competition is £45.00 all in and anyone interested in entering should contact the fishery office on 01629 5410 769 or drop me an e-mail to phil.straton@severntrent.co.uk and we can give you full details and an entry form to book your place in this fun and friendly event.
Top spots for the week were the Dam wall, Millfields Bay, Brown Ale Bay, Shiningford Creek and Tower Bank from the boats and Millfields Point and Upperfields Bay from the bank.
The best flies were Damsel nymphs, Humungus, Diawl Bach, Hares Ear, Black & Red Buzzers and Black and Green Montanas.
