Report.
Although the weather has remained cold and breezy there has been plently of buzzers hatching off of the water and the fishing has been good. The swallows (yes they are here! So summer has officially begun!) and the martins have been busy skimming the waters surface feeding on the insects coming off. The trout have also been taking advantage of the hatching insects and the best tactic’s this week have been; static buzzers, allowed just to drift on a floating line and diawl bach’s/ small nymphs on midge tip or ghost tip lines just moved with a slow figure of eight.
The honours for the best rainbow this week are shared between Paul Bebb and John Smith who both landed cracking fish of 5lb each. Paul Bebb took his fish on a black buzzer whilst drifting off Sitch Plantation, while John Smith caught his on a red buzzer under an indicator from Tower Bank.
A superb brown trout weighing in at 3lb was the best brown of the week. It was caught by regular angler John Scragg, John was also using a red buzzer and was fishing in a boat off the East Bank at Half Moon Field when his stunning grown on brown was tempted to take his fly.
Top spots for the week were Tower Bank, Sheepwash, Half Moon Feild and Oldfields Lane from the boats and Millfields Point and Upperfields Bay from the bank.
The best flies were Black Buzzers, Red Buzzers, Red Diawl Bach’s, Montana’s, and Damsel nymphs.
Tight lines for 2008
