Report.
Well So much for the old adage of March coming in like a lion and going out like a lamb! Opening day started with a howling Northerly, which was blowing steady 30 mph and gusting 55mph, and crashing waves making for such atrocious conditions that we were unable to let the boats out. Despite these appalling conditions there were some hardy souls who fished on the bank and were rewarded with some lovely trout.
Mr J Finneran had the best of opening day catching his bag limit of 6 and then returning 3 other fish including a lovely 2lb brown which took a small black lure in Millfields Bay. Mr Finneran was back on Monday 24th when conditions were better and had another superb day landing a total of 20 fish including 5 brown trout. The best brown was a superb grown on fish of 4lb and is the best brown trout of the week. Most of his fish took an olive lure fished on an intermediate line.
The best rainbow this week goes to Philip Hill who landed a cracking 4lb 9oz rainbow trout. This was the best fish from a total of 10 for the day. Philip was fishing along Tower Bank from a boat using an orange blob on a sinking line and retrieving quite quickly. This method accounted for almost his entire bag.
Top spots for the week were Tower Bank, Millfields Bay to Millfields Point, Watersports Island and Stones Island.
The best flies were Black & Green or Orange lures, Montana’s, buzzers and Orange Blob’s.
Tight lines for 2008
