Ranger's review:
The past week at Scaling Dam has without doubt been the best of the season so far. The rod
bending action has continued in all areas of the reservoir. With two fish over 10lbs landed and the rod average for the week around 5, anglers have been delighted with the hard fighting quality of the fish. Both bait and fly anglers have had equal share of the action, but the two best fish of the week fell to fly. Eston angler Stuart Patterson, fishing the West end of the Dam Wall tempted the biggest fish of the week at 10lbs 15oz on a floating line and Montana nymph. Skelton angler Les Wheatley netted a rainbow of 10lbs 8oz on a floating line combined with a Dawson's Olive. Bait angler, Ryan Spence from Guisborough caught a rainbow of 8lbs 8oz on Orange Powerbait from the Groyne area on the South Shore. Alan Henderson from Middlesbrough fishing on the Disabled Jetty landed a rainbow of 8lbs, tempted by his offering of worm. The introduction of a further 900 rainbows during the next week, should ensure the action continues during the coming Bank Holiday weekend.
Best catch: Two Rainbows over 10lbs
Best flies: Dawson's Olive, Montana, Kate McLaren
Best baits: All baits catching fish.
Best areas: All areas fishing well.
