Ranger's review:
Novice fly angler, Les Parker from Great Lumley, only managed to catch one fish when
he visited Grassholme on St George's day, but what a fish!!

Les was fishing near the disabled platform using a sinking line when a cracking 10lb rainbow took his Consett Budgie, the best fish of the season so far. Fly anglers in general have faired better as the water temperature slowly starts to rise and the first buzzers start to hatch bringing fish to the surface. Ledgering is still the top bait method and some enterprising anglers have discovered that mixing rainbow Powerbait into Greedy Bait to make it float has devastating effects. Using a leader length of 3 - 4 feet has been the most effective ledgering method. While float fishing on calmer days has also produced fish using a longer leader.
Best flies: Mosaic Viva, Black & Green Thompson's Gazelle, Sunburst Kate McLaren.
Best baits: Rainbow Powerbait & Greedy Bait cocktail with Magic Dust in swim feeder.
Best areas: Lodge front, Easter Bay, Grassholme Bank
