Ranger's review:
There was a bumper start to the season at Fontburn and those anglers who queued up from 11.30 the previous night were well rewarded.
Brian Jewitt from Northumberland caught his 12 fish in less than 6 hours totalling 27lb.
Heaviest total catch went to K. Thompson who caught eight fish weighing over 28lb.
Ian Teesdale also caught eight weighing 28lb.
J. Wharton caught twelve for over 26lb.
The usual early season tactics generally worked well, but surprisingly a number of anglers
also caught fish fishing only a couple of feet below the surface.
Best flies: Cat's Whisker, Dawson's Olive and Bibios.
Best baits: Ledgered multi coloured (rainbow) Powerbait or Ledgered Worms.
Best areas: Dam Wall.
