Autumn International Fly-fishing Competition at Trawsfynydd

We are lucky to have amongst our membership some of the top flyfishermen in Wales who are always willing to give advice to other anglers.

This year’s Autumn International Fly Fishing Championship was fished in horrendous weather. The practice sessions proved to be the wettest and wildest in the history of the championship with gusting rain, gale force winds and high waves buffeting the boats. In fact some boats were unable to return to the jetty on one practice day because of the force of the wind.

On competition day itself the persistent rain in the morning and early afternoon made things pretty unpleasant but this did not deter the fish from being on the fin and the competitors had quite a successful day out on the water.

Although Wales lost the Gold on a technicality it did not deter from the magnificent performance by Mr. Bob Jones Committee member of Corus Game Angling association. This earned him the much-coveted Brown Bowl for the angler with the heaviest catch in the International competition.( Below is a picture of Bob receiving the award.)   Bob also won the Kevin McGrath Trophy this year and is the Spring Team captain for the International match in Chew Valley in 2009.
