BRISTOL WATER FISHERY REPORTS
WEEK ENDING Monday 29th September 2008
TOTAL FISH TAKEN TO DATE 47,165
Weather: Another lovely week of light winds and warm days. Many started foggy but plenty of sunshine soon followed. Much colder nights now and dark well before finish time. No rain for the week.
Water: The high water levels remain at the main lakes though Barrows are well down at present. Some blue/green algae at Barrow 2. Temperature at the surface remains at about 16°C.
Chew: The warm and settled weather has encouraged many anglers on to the lake, especially from the boats where they have seen plenty of moving fish. These are mainly feeding on black buzzer which have been hatching most days. Although they often appear impossible to catch, a well presented small red or claret emerger placed in front of them will almost certainly produce interest. The difficulty is getting close enough in the calm conditions. And when the wind comes up the fish often disappear. Even then the fish can still be taken on nymphs and washing line as long as they are fished within the top couple of feet. Around the shoreline there are many fry feeding fish too. For these sinking lines are best with minkies and larger lure patterns. But beware as they are plenty of jack pike after the small roach and perch too and these soon make short work of thin nylon leaders.
BRFFA had their autumn Hidden Pairs match at Chew on Sunday. Top rod on the day was BEN KEEDWELL who took most of his 8 fish limit on dries. His weight of over 20lbs boosted by his partner MARK PACKER-HUGHES catch, won them the first prize of £100.00.
This weeks catch:
304 trout taken by 181 rods, average 1.7 per rod
Total catch to date:
47,165 trout taken by 14,555 rods, an average catch of 3.2 per rod.
