BRISTOL WATER REPORT
WEEK ENDING Monday 22nd September 2008

Weather:       A lovely autumnal week with very light winds and warm days. Most days started misty but cleared to give bright and sometimes sunny conditions. Dry!

Water:            Still a little algae present at all the lakes but making no difference to the fishing. Levels steady and the surface temperature remains at 16°C.

Catch:             1175 trout taken by 422 rods, average 2.8 per rod

Chew:        Fish feeding well with plenty of surface activity most days. In the calm conditions fish have responded well to dries and emergers. Any appearance of ripple fishing just sub surface with nymphs or pulled flies. Red, orange and claret bits and hoppers have caught well despite the fact that black buzzers are hatching. Plenty of trout around the margins feeding on corixa, hog louse and shrimps. Around the jetties and the Island watch out too for fry feeders .

The final of the Lexus Individuals took place o Sunday and 100 anglers went afloat in flat, bright conditions. Fish were rising over most of the lake but were difficult to take on dries. A ripple soon appeared making the fish go down a little and pulling flies started to catch. Sparkler Boobies, blobs and nymphs all caught and a few came close to the shores and ttok fish feeding on the small roach and perch. At the weigh in 257 fish had been taken at an average weight of 2.06. Only one angler took eight fish. That was winner RICHARD SLATER . CAMPBELL BAIRD was second with 7 fish, and JIM YOUNGMAN third. Top local anglers were MARTIN BURGESS and MARK WITHYMAN 4th and 5th. A special holiday prize went to the captor of the biggest fish. FRANK DALEY was the lucky angler with a lovely rainbow of 4.02.

This week saw the capture of an 8.05 brown trout. The fish fell to a red holo Diawl Bach nymph fished off the reeds at wick. DAVID SMITH, on holiday from Scotland landed the specimen.

Total catch to date:
46,492 trout taken by 14,168 rods, an average catch of 3.3 per rod.
