BRISTOL WATER FISHERY REPORTS
WEEK ENDING Monday 8th September 2008
TOTAL FISH TAKEN TO DATE 43,865
Weather:
The unsettled and stormy summer continues into the autumn. This week ahs seen very strong winds and very heavy rain with little sunshine.
Water:
The algal bloom at Chew is slightly better and is still present at Barrow 1 & 2. Blagdon is clear and now overflowing after the recent rains. The surface temperature has fallen slightly to 15°C.
Chew:
Although the green algae is still very abundant it hasn’t affected the fishing as much as many would expect. Bank anglers are finding it difficult to locate fish but the boats have done very well, taking fish from the Dam Basin, Woodford, Herons, Roman Shallows and Herriotts. Most of the fish are falling to bright boobies and lures or dries, though some anglers have caught good bags fishing with nymphs on the washing line. This week saw the Chew heat of the Association of Major Clubs league with BRFFA as hosts. 34 fishermen went afloat and took 2008 fish. Eighteen of the competitors managed to complete their limit bag of eight while just one failed to catch at all giving a rod average of over 6 fish per person. Individual winner was GARRY MORRIS whose bags included a superb brown of 5.08. His weight of 23.06 helped his team, Hanningfield into third place behind Rutland Water and winners Bewl Water FF.
This weeks catch:
440 trout taken by 123 rods, average 3.6 per rod
WARNING. The algae at the lakes can give skin irritation to sensitive skin. Avoid contact when possible.
