BRISTOL WATER FISHERY REPORTS
WEEK ENDING Monday 15th September 2008
TOTAL FISH TAKEN TO DATE 44,909
Weather:
At last we have some settled, gentle weather! A mild week of mainly cloud with some light rain. Light winds from the west and east and occasionally – some sunshine. Cooler mornings and evenings.
Water:
The blue/green algae at Chew is snow clearing and has gone from Barrow 1 & 2. Blagdon remains mainly clear. All lakes are very full. The surface temperature is still 15°C.
Chew:
With the quieter fishing conditions Chew has fished well from the boats although still a little difficult from some bank areas. Those anglers afloat have enjoyed some prolific hatches of black buzzers that have encouraged the fish to rise and feed, sometimes throughout the day. These fish have been found in most places but Roman Shallows, Herons, Villice, The Sailing Club and Aerators seem to be best. There are also plenty of margin feeders too in the shallower parts of the lake – Wick, Herriotts, Stratford and the Bays. These are mainly feeding on corixa. There is some fry feeding has started near the Landing stages and around the Island. So plenty of opportunity to fish different methods and patterns. Dries and emergers such as Bobs Bits and Hoppers in black and claret have been the best for the buzzer feeders though some have used a washing line with nymphs but still fishing near the surface. . Dries will also take the corixa feeders though a little movement may get you more takes. Fry patterns are best fished on sinking lines.
Catch:
505 trout taken by 162 rods, average 3.1 per rod
