Thornton Fishing report week ending 15/06/08
Not a bad week considering the weather as 209 rods caught 647 trout releasing 261 for a rod average 3.1 A variety of methods worked this past week, some caught using 20ft+ leaders & buzzers fished deep & dead slow, others caught on a fast sinking line & a booby on a 6ft leader fished on the back drift whilst other found fish moving late afternoon along the weed beds feeding on the large sedge hatches, a size 14 G&H sedge worked well. Generally the deeper water around the orange buoys, stones & dam produced best with any wind offering the best fishing conditions. The British Float Tube Association paid Thornton a visit over the weekend 17 float tubers fished with the eventual winner Terry Thomas with 6 fish for 10lb14oz followed closely by Ian Gedney with 6 fish for 10lb11oz Other notable catches were made by Phil Kemp fishing a damsel pattern to catch 17 to 3lb, Adrian Freer caught 11 on buzzers on a 20ft leader, A. Illiffe caught 10 to 4lb while K. Maile & P. Harris fished 25ft leaders & buzzers deep off a floating line to catch 26 between them. David Bird from Rugby caught 11 to 4lb on a booby & buzzer While John Salisbury recorded 10 fish for his visit & Tony Lorrimer 12 for his visit.
