The 2007 season opened at Thornton on 1st February to conditions you'd expect during early May with an air temperature topping 17 degrees.
Bank & boat anglers made the most of the mild conditions with John Hall taking a fine over wintered rainbow of 4lb2oz on his very first cast of the new season. With the mild winter a number of over wintered fish over the 3lb mark have been caught with Trevor Cross of Leicester taking the best at 8lb 2oz.
The shallows of the Thornton Arm, Wood bank & Markfield Arm produced best with bank anglers at times enjoying the best of the sport, don't forget if your coming to fish the bank at Thornton bring waders.
Intermediate lines with a variety of fritz & tadpole patterns caught a lot of fish, but some anglers who used buzzers & diawl bach also caught well, Dave Ptitchard catching 18 on a diawl bach while Russ Whitmore caught 15 on the same fly.
