Thornton Fishing Report week ending 08/06/05
7lb8oz by P. Harris & 7lb2oz rainbows taken by R. Moreton were the highlight of the week taken from the deep water in front of the dam with one falling to a deep fished buzzer on the hang & the other to a booby.

During the week & with the warmer weather the trout have moved into the deeper water around the orange buoy, stones & dam during the day, only moving back onto the shallows during the cooler last couple of hours to feed on the huge hatches of sedge & caenis. During the day the trout are feeding on the daphnia, buzzers & a few are on the massive shoals of pinfry we have this year. During the week 255 rods caught 648 trout returning 269 for a rod average of 2.5 The Kirby Fly Fishers fished the Lol Worral Pairs Trophy at Thornton on Sunday averaging an excellent rod average of 5.25 for their match taking their trout on either a fast sinking line with booby or damsels or fishing the bung with 20ft plus leaders & buzzers. Mr P Harris not only caught the largest trout of the week but with his boat partner Mr Male they boated in total 32 trout with a further 5 trout over 4lb all taken on buzzers fished deep. Mr T. Evans & Mr J. Balinski also fished buzzers deep to boat 30 fish for their visit. J. Smith & M. Pepper fished buzzers deep to boat their catch of 37 rainbows, while D. Lovegrove enjoyed his best day ever at Thornton to boat 20 trout to over 3lb With the warmer weather can all anglers please ensure they allow adequate time for the trout to recover when fishing catch & release. As we near the half way stage for the season a total of 2,933 rods have recorded a catch of 12,238 trout for a fishery rod average of 4.1 an excellent first half of the season.
