Three nice doubles out this week but the fishing has been hard work. Our mature lakes are teaming with minnows and tadpoles and there have been tremendous fly hatches - some of the most prolific we have seen in the twenty years we have been here. All this and the sultry weather we are having makes catching the trout difficult. At this time of year the important thing is to enjoy the day. For anglers only interested in numbers the day can be wasted. Best patterns this week have mainly been dries - sedges have done well and also the CDC emerger type patterns. Hare's Ear Nymph and Damsels have also been effective. The top lake has generally fished better than the lower and that is where the hatches and rises have been at there best. Doubles this week were caught by Mr Jack Hodgson from South Shields who took a 15lb 12oz on a Yellow Bloodworm.

Mr Gary Brown from Tow Law landed a 14lb 12oz on a Black Pennell

and Mr I Thornberry from Darlington had an 11lb 11oz on a Black & Green Fritz.

Thankyou,
Dave & Sandra
