Thornton weekly fishing report week ending 1/06/08
Another good weeks fishing with 224 rods catching 852 trout for a weekly rod average 3.8
With buzzers, damsels, sedges & caenis on the water we are having excellent rises with trout moving throughout the day during any overcast periods in the weather. The last couple of hours at night have been excellent with trout moving in large numbers along the Markfield arm, stones & wood with the caenis along the wood bank & stones bringing the trout to within easy casting distance of the bank anglers. To catch fish feeding on caenis taper your leader to a 4lb or 3lb point I prefer to fish a tups indispensable, Griffiths gnat or on Charles Jardine recommendation a sparkle gnat, in size 14-16-18 make sure you degrease your leader & fish the dry static. Anglers have caught trout on a variety of methods this week, during any bright spells an intermediate with buzzers & flashback damsels on the dropper & a small orange booby on the point, or an intermediate with an orange gold head, orange blob or damsel. On your floating line damsel patterns, olive buzzers, hoppers & the dries mentioned earlier. Once again we have had excellent individual catches Clive Holt caught 17 to 3lb4oz, Roger Jones caught a 5lb4oz brown, Nigel Harvey also caught a 5lb brown, D. Humphries caught 10 on a black muddler, L. Goff caught 12 to 4lb4oz then returned the following day & caught 18 & returned again towards the end of the week & caught 11 to 3lb, Howard Davies caught 12.
