Cold Northerly winds cause frustration at times with anglers continually changing flies at Witton. Fish are still looking to the surface to feed and are still taking savagely off the top on days even with quite a wave.We all need these very erratic weather patterns to change to the 'West when the fishing is best'.
Later on in the week we saw large hatches of Olives and a few Greendrakes of the Danica species, along with the beginning of our first Damsels. Incidently we have a
nine page article written by Mr Fred Bainbridge

and river champion / photograper Mr Paul Davison on a new conceipt Damsel Nymph watch out for this. Best fish of the week fell to Mr Gareth Cook, Darlington at 11lbs along with Mr I Doodly from Gosforth at 7lbs, 2lb 8ozs and 2lb. Mr P Weatherspoon from Prudoe secured fish of 8lbs,4lbs, and 3lbs 8ozs, whilst Mr Andy Breen from Crook took a superb 5 lbder all on Damsel Nymph.
Mr David Howe from Cockfield had a nice fish which fell to a Dawsons Olive at 9lbs 12ozs, the Wizard of Witton's comment was 'well its not quite a double Davie'.

Sporting permit anglers having superb sport at times with some catches in the 20 fish region. Mr Joe Myers from Consett topping the bill with nine fish one at 19lbs and another at 11lbs 8ozs, but probally the bonniest fish was a perfectly proportioned blue/silver trout at 15lbs caught and returned by Mr John Bean from Brandon.
Thankyou
