Jubilee Report to May 24th.
Rod Average 2.9. The question this week has been which pattern. I think anglers have caught them on the lot! They've taken Dries, especially black, Sedges, Klinkhammers, CDC Emergers, Shipman's, GRHE, Buzzers - olive or black, Gold Head Damsel, Nomads, Cats Whisker, Dawsons Olive, Olive Zonker, Bloodworm (red), Blobs and others which I might have forgotten. The problem is that they haven't taken any of them consistently. Even the anglers who have done best have perhaps only caught a couple of trout on the same pattern and then had to go through their fly box again in search of the pattern to catch their next trout. In a day a successful angler might have caught on everything from a dry to a big ugly lure. The trout are there to be caught but anglers have had to work for them. Could probably do with rid of the Easterly winds for some more settled fishing. The fishing here can be very good with the Easterlies if the weather is hot but it's still a bit on the cool side at the moment and anglers, especially on our top lake have been feeling the teeth of that wind. Apart from anything else the trout are feeding on naturally they are taking some of the large golden bellied fry that are in the lakes. Not sure what they are but the trout like them. This is probably why the fry type patterns are still doing well. Doubles this week went to Mr Jeff Hopper from Newcastle who landed a 17lb 1oz rainbow on an Olive Zonker.

Mr Gareth Tilley from Lanchester took a 15lb trout. I think this was also on an Olive Zonker though I am not certain.

Finally Len Donoghue from Marton netted a 12lb 12oz rainbow on a Gold Head Damsel.
