Just when I thought the weather was on the up, back come the cold North Easterly winds - will the wind direction ever change. With strong cold winds this week the rod average dropped to 4 with some anglers finding the fishing hard. Scot Wilson and Ray Ellis were amongst the anglers who caught very well both of them taking over 20 fish each. Ray found fishing quite hard when he started on the lures but the minute he changed to the nymphs the fish couldn't get enough, Ray fished a 15ft leader with 3 Buzzers on a floater down the Cavers Arm to take 24 fish for the day, he had rainbows up to 4lb. Scot had a similar day struggling on the lures but changing to his favorite Olive Daddy late morning the fish started to come every drift. Scott found a lot of fish holding tight in over on the Ticknall bank from the Cascade to Heron Point. Bank anglers have been having good catches over on the East bank from Bush Bay to the Cascade but the bigger bags of fish have been coming out on smaller natural flies such as Buzzers, Diawl Bachs, PTN, Crunchers and even on dries when you are fishing the top bank. There are still a few places left for the Foremark Open boat match it has been a great event over the past few years with a BBQ and beer after-wards so who cares if you don't win. This week will see similar fishing conditions so head for the bays and the top of the wind and fish your smaller patterns and your catches will improve.
