Thornton fishing report week ending 03/05/08

A record week for Thornton Reservoir as 241 rods caught 2,175 trout returning 1,474 for a rod average of 9.0 as bank & boat anglers enjoyed the tremendous sport. The bank opposite the lodge, wood & farm bank is still fishing best but as the week progressed we started having good rises during the early afternoon in front of the stones & main dam where boats on the drift enjoyed the better sport. Buzzers hatching in good numbers is one reason the sport was so good last week with anglers using a floating line & Montana, damsel, black buzzers, green buzzers & emerges working best. Norman Perkins bank fished to catch 20 to 3lb on damsel & buzzers, Bill Nichols bank fished along the farm bank & caught 20 on buzzers, M. Jelly bank fished & caught 23 on damsel patterns, W. Toone & R. Lee fished on the drift along the dam & caught 50 trout between them on buzzers & hoppers, while P. Harris & K. Maile caught 52 between them on buzzers. As you would expect with such a good weeks fishing there were numerous anglers catches into double figures but I guess special mention must go to Ray Saunders who traveled from south Wales to fish from his tube catching 28 trout with 4 over 4lb & the largest at 7lb2oz his fish were caught on a small cats whisker, bloodworm & Kate  Mclaren . With the increase in the buzzer hatches we are starting to have a good evening rise which will only get better during the coming week.
