Thornton Reservoir Fishing report week ending 27/04/08
Thornton has certainly hit top form with 208 rods catching 1,287 trout returning 731 for a rod average 6.2 as boat & bank anglers continue to enjoy the good sport.
The shallows of the Thornton arm, wood bank & farm continue to fish the best with anglers catching on buzzers, cruncher, diawl bach & damsel patterns. With our water temperature nudging 12 degrees & by the ever increasing activity of the swallows over the main basin it will only be a matter of days before boat anglers on the drift start to catch from that area as well.
With over 1,000 trout caught & a rod average of above 6 fish per rod you can imagine many anglers recorded large bags of trout some of the larger trout were taken by M. Peacock a brown of 5lb, P. Walker 5lb10oz rainbow, W. Lewin 5lb rainbow, M. Neal 5lb8oz, Mrs C. Bagshaw 5lb, B. Harris 5lb, T. Ord 5lb K. Sargent 4lb2oz, R. Smith 4lb2oz, A. Russell 4lb8oz, J. Moon 4lb10oz & 4lb4oz, N. Perkins 5lb, 2 at 4lb8oz & 4lb, I. Tansey 4lb12oz, Mrs C. King 4lb12oz are just a few of the larger fish recorded last week.
The bank continues to fish well but if your coming to fish the bank be sure to bring your waders. Boat bookings have also increased I recommend therefore you call the lodge & book your boat to avoid any disappointment.
