Thornton fishing report week ending 13/04/08
Its typical April weather sunshine & showers, but don’t let the weather forecast put you off as Thornton enjoyed a fantastic weeks fishing last week with excellent hatches of buzzers during the warmer part of the providing excellent sport to bank & boat anglers.
1,161 trout were caught with 708 returned by 149 rods for a fishery rod average of 7.8 The morning to mid afternoon session is fishing best with the shallows opposite the lodge, wood bank & farm bank producing the majority of the trout.An intermediate or floating line with a black & green fritz, olive fritz, Montana, diawl bach, cruncher & buzzers have all taken trout with anglers fishing buzzers under an indicator starting to catch good bags of trout.
Foremark Fly Fishers visited Thornton on Sunday for their annual match with 13 rods finding the fishing in top form killing 70 trout & returning 147 for an incredible match average of 16.69 fish per person. Eventual winner was Allan Dawes who caught over 40 trout to his own rod.Other notable catches during the week were S. Leonard who caught 35 on buzzers from the bank, L. Goff caught 24 to 3lb on buzzers, J. Gunby caught 27 on black buzzers & diawl bach, P. Wrigley caught 31 on hares ears & buzzers, Alan Wale & Rex Bray shared a boat & caught 48 between them.With the water temperature pushing 10 degrees & with our water clarity at least 5ft we should enjoy another good weeks fishing again this week.
