Thornton fishing report 06/04/08
Despite the weather we enjoyed a better weeks fishing with 141 rods catching 444 trout returning 143 for a rod average 3.1 In between the cold winds & wintry showers we have had some glorious spells of bright warm spring sunshine, & during these warmer periods we have had the first good buzzer hatches. The shallows of the Thornton Arm, wood & lonesome pine produced best to intermediate & sinking lines with black & green fritz, fritz damsel, buzzers & pheasant tails. The bank anglers enjoyed the best of the sport as the trout are still within 25 yards of the bank. M. Webbon fished off the wood bank with a sinking line & sweeny todd lure to catch 12, Gordon Richards from Derby fished the bank opposite the lodge & caught 10, Scott Wilson fished an olive fritz & caught 12 while Adrian Freer from Leicester fished buzzers & caught 12, Peter Broad from Thornton used a pheasant tail & buzzers to catch 9 again off the bank opposite the lodge. With a further stocking of 1200 trout this week & with our water clarity at 3ft+ & improving daily we should see the upturn in the sport continue this coming week.
