Witton Castle Lakes w/e 14/03/08
Witton Castle Lakes w/e 14/03/08
Despite the strong winds blowing virtually all week making conditions for anglers difficult to cast, Witton has fished well mostly to intermidiate lines and either Zonkers, Black Fritz or Cats Whiskers. However there are signs of the smaller imitation patterns taking fish when conditions allow. Mr Andrew Grabbam from Bishopton had an exellent day on a sporting permit returning 22 fish on a Black Buzzer, Daiwl Bach and Hares Ear patterns. Mr Paul Walton from Coundon also returned 20 fish mostly in the 3 to 4lb. bracket all taken on Bloodworms.
Best fish this week fell to Mr S Alfred at 14lbs 4ozs, he completed his exellent bag limit with fish of 5lbs 4ozs, and 3lbs 4ozs all taken on Black Buzzers.
Mr Geoffrey Thorn from Evenwood took a 11lb'er on a Black Fritz and Mr D Lumley from Stanley had a cracking bag of fish at 10lb.,and a matched pair of 3lb'ders.
Last week weather patterns were identical , anglers braving these conditions such as Mr Paul Embelton from Consett an exellent angler and imative fly tyer , fished his own Zonker variation returning 13 fish on a sporting permit on an extremely difficult day, along with Mr John Ord from Cowden returning one of our big doubles at 20lb.+.
Fishery Managers would like to request great care and attention from anglers before releasing these double figured fish from the margins, particulary during the summer months when the water temperatures are lot higher, as these fish require a longer recovery time.
Thankyou
Colin and Bill
