Well here we are again March the 1st Open day and what a day it was!!!
A great turn was had on the opening weekend at Foremark with nearly 150 anglers over the 2 days taking over 1,000 fish up to 6lb with a rod average of 11 now beat that.Strong winds didn't stop the anglers turning up this weekend which fished really well from the boats and even better from the bank. The boat fishermen struggled to get a hold in the main Basin with the strong winds so they headed down the Cavers Arm to the bays and what great fishing they had with most boats returning with their limits and releasing a fair amount more.
Bank anglers have had top sport along the Dam wall to the Sailing club where the majority of the rainbows are holding. Glen Moody from Crewe had a fine day taking 6 fish for 18lb and releasing 34 rainbows and a lovely brown pushing the 5lb mark. The fish have been showing up on the windward bank in Flamingo bay and all the way down the bank from Sunblest to the Nature reserve. Fly patterns haven't really mattered yet with anglers taking fish on lures, Boobies and even Diawl Bachs and Buzzers.
3,000 rainbows went in for the start and weekly stockings will be taking place all this month to build a good head of trout up ready for the new season and what a season we should have. Don't be put off by the weather, get your rods out and let the wind blow the cob webs off and let the trout test your nylon???? Hopefully see you up here fishing soon and tight lines Phil Dixon.
