WITTON CASTLE LAKES OPENING WEEKEND.
FISHERY RECORD BROKEN.
Witton Castle opened Saturday 23rd Feb. Fortunately all the lakes were clear of ice and in exellent condition, but very cold.
There was a full complement of anglers, and all had an exellent days fishing. With the water being very cold, lures and intermediate lines have been the most succesful methods. Black Zonkers, Cats Whiskers, and Black & Green lures fished slowly have done best. Some anglers elected to fish Buzzers, Bloodworms and Hares Ears but found them only catching through out the middle part of the day when the wind dropped and temperatures increased.
The fishery record was broken on the opening day with Mr Edward Sharp fom Newfield catching a fish of 23 lbs 8oz on a Cats Whisker. This was a superb specimen fully finned and in exellent condition.

Eddy fished again on Sunday and reported returning another double figured fish estimated at 20lbs. this time on a Black Zonker.
Mr Michael Turner from Bishop Auckland secured a 10lbder, along with Mr P Pemberton from Stanhope a fish of 8lbs 12ozs and Mr Ryan Barron from Coxhoe a superb quality fish of 8lbs 4ozs.
All the fish were in exellent condition and gave anglers a great fight to the start of the season on this very cold and windy weekend.
