The First Spring Salmon is taken!
Local angler Seamus Quirke caught the first springer of the year on Sunday, February 10th.
He took it on spinner at the Tail on Inchinleama (Beat 5). The fish was sea-liced and weighed 9.5 lb.
The same afternoon - Harry Green from Bray, Co. Wicklow - hooked & lost another springer on spinner just a mile further upstream at the Jole on Lower Kilmurry (Beat 6).
All this when only 3 rods ventured out on the river to fish.
On Monday 11th and on Tuesday 12th, several fresh fish were seen going through Ballyhooly Bridge (Beat 8).
Excellent Prospects for the Coming Days
The river is in absolutely superb condition - the clarity is about 6 feet.
The water height is perfect for spinning and is just now coming down to a fishable height
for the fly on some of our beats. The level is dropping steadily. With continuing good weather until the end of the week, conditions are only going to improve and the prospects for the coming week should be superb. Air temperatures hit 16 Celcius today.
There is plenty of availability for fishing and also accommodation for the remainder of February.
Best Regards & Tight Lines!
