As is historically typical of my past opening days - the weather took a turn for the worst. Very high winds, freezing temperatures and a sprinkling of snow kept folk away. Just nine anglers braved the conditions and were forced to cram in between the tower and boat ramp - fortunately the stockies were sheltering there too.

Toft regular Mervin White from Bilsthorpe caught the first fish of the Toft season on his third cast, a nice Rainbow of 6Ib. (Photo attached). He also managed a Rainbow of 3Ib 14oz as part of his 6 fish limit. Saturday the wind dropped a little but daytime temperatures struggled to stay above freezing, yet the fishing was surprisingly good. Father and son duo, the Holloways, took 19 fish between them fishing intermediate lines and a variety of lures just beyond the boat ramp. Cat's whiskers, Montana nymphs, Viva lures and blobs have all been best this weekend.
Fingers crossed for a bit of less windy and milder weather coming soon, although it is the middle of winter after all!
I'll keep throwing the fish in until it's nice enough for you all to come!
Regards,
Jason Foster
