The year generally ended on a high note though the trout were certainly
much less predictable this week than they have been. Where they had been
fairly settled on black patterns - the black bloodworm, zonkers, and
fritz patterns or else the Cats Whisker - this week they have taken a
whole range of patterns. Quite a few trout have been caught on buzzers
which was nice to see because they have had a fair run on lures.
Dawson's Olive and Damsels have also been very good this week.

A variation on Phil Totten's Sexy Black Bloodworm has worked well. Harry
Freeman tied his version buzzer style. He still used the red grub hook
but tied on a black flexifloss body with no tail but still the two long
'horns' that you would normally have on a flexifloss bloodworm. He
cropped these to about half an inch long (or a bit longer) and the trout
were certainly keen to have a taste. Harry's efforts paid off with a
16lb 9oz rainbow as well as quite a few others which he returned.

Paul Tweddle from Weardale pipped him though, with a 17lb 7oz rainbow
and one of 10lb 10oz. The first caught on a Black Goldhead Lure and the
second on a Dawson's Olive.

Nicholas Hart from Stanley landed a 14lb 13oz on an Olive Zonker and
Keith Stephenson from Great Ayton landed a 14lb 7oz on a Goldhead Mini Cat.

We are now closed, fishery and tackle shop, until Thursday 31st January.
Thankyou and all the best for 2008.
