Blackwater Lodge Newsletter – December 12, 2007
The close season is nearly two thirds gone, and we are already looking forward to the new season with eager anticipation.
2007 Spawning Season
The spawning this year has been spectacular – thanks to the removal of the drift nets.
There is a huge stock of spawning fish right the way through the system from the lowest beats right to the top of the river. This bodes well for the future stocks.
Prospects for 2008
Hopefully, the weather in the first half of the season will be better than it was this year.
I am looking forward to a continuing improvement in spring fishing, as the run over recent years has definitely increased. Most of our 2007 springers ran the river during the abnormally high water we experienced from mid-February to mid-March, and were hard to catch when the water levels finally dropped. The unprecedented three month drought from then until late June slowed down the early summer runs, but what spectacular fishing we had during July, August & September.
Fishing Report Page
I’ll be starting to update the page from January 1st. (if my head’s not too sore from New Year’s Eve!) with rainfall & river height & condition in the run-up to Opening Day on February 1st.
