Witton Castle Fishery Report 30.10.07.
Witton Castle Fishery Report 30.10.07.
Witton are still stocking weekly and plan to stay open until 9th December.
It has been a strange week with high pressure dominating and days with no
ripple. Plenty of fish showing but feeding on tiny green affide flies off
the top, along with imature snails which are inverting and floating to the
surface and attaching themselves to the bottom of the surface
menicus. Fishing just between the ripple and the flat some anglers have had
very succesful days fishing, but difficult and frustrating at times, trying
to determine the size of flies.
However anglers going sub surface have had some good sport with fish in the
3 to 6lb catergory on Black Zonker, Black Cats Whisker, Pink Bloodworm, and
Black Buzzers.
Mr Ryan Barron from Coxhoe had another good day out with 14 fish best to to
6lb 4oz. mostly to Cats Whisker.
Mr Ivan Stephenson from Consett had a good quality bag with fish of 5lb 4oz,
5lb, and 2lb 8oz. along with Terry Ross from Willington taking a nice fish
of 6lbs.
River Tees was running at least 2 to 3ft of water on Sunday, clustered with
leaves making it impossible to fish, whilst the Wear had a couple of inches
and was desperately low in a short 24hr. run off period, bringing the season
to a close, with many anglers going through the motions, but very little to
report.
