Thornton Fishing Report, Week Ending 14/10/07
This mild autumn weather is a pleasure to be out in, & due to the mild weather the trout are still taking buzzers & sedges in preference to any fry patterns. The fishing has been at its best from late morning onwards with the corner of the wood, Markfield arm & the weed beds along the Thornton arm producing best.
A floating line with buzzers (black or Red), diwal bach, black pennell, damsel, dry sedge & small fry patterns have worked best with 203 rods catching 496 trout for a rod average of 2.4
Thornton Fly Fishers fished their single fly competition (all the competitors using the same fly pattern) this years chosen fly pattern was a white booby. Most opted to fish the booby on a floating or intermediate line with the eventual winner Richard Dayman taking his 6 fish limit for just under 10lb. Their match had a rod average of 5.4 with the majority of their catches coming between Noon & 4.30pm
Other notable catches for the week were Clive Holt catching 22 for his two afternoon visits, C. Maggs catching 12 on buzzers, D. Lovegrove found the fish in the afternoon & fished an intermediate & damsel to catch 9 while Norma Prime took some time off from helping at the lodge to catch 7 on a dry G&H sedge pattern.
