Thornton Fishing Report week ending 7/10/07
Indian summer or just a beautiful Autumn, whichever it is, its perfect for the trout. With our water temperature at 14.5degrees & overcast conditions for most of last week anglers reported seeing lots of fish moving off & on all day & its not surprising with 8,130 trout in the reservoir. The trout at times however proved difficult to tempt but 207 rods did record a catch of 639 trout returning 376 for a weekly rod average of over 3
Fishing around the margins with a floater or intermediate with a cats whisker, appetizer or white fritz caught plenty of fish, but anglers using buzzers, diawl bach & dries also enjoyed their fair share of the action. We are still having an evening rise but as we drop further into this month & if the good weather continues we should enjoy good sport throughout the day as the trout body clock start to pack on weight for the coming winter.
Roger Jones fished a damsel pattern on an intermediate along the wood bank for his morning visit catch of 10, Allan Mayes fished buzzers to catch19, Norman Perkins fished the evening rise to catch 10, Sue & John Hall shared a boat & caught 17 on hares ear & buzzers, John Gunby fished the weed beds along the Thornton arm with damsels & buzzers to catch 9 for his afternoon visit, while Dick Herrington fished a buzzer & caught 11 as did M. Pepper also catching 11.
The trout are well spread throughout the reservoir but the favorite areas have been the bank from the boat pontoon to the main car park, farm bank, lonesome pine & the weed beds along the Thornton Arm.
