Thornton Fishing report week ending 30/09/07
A much better week with 957 trout caught for the week with 594 trout returned foe a weekly rod average of 4.5
The trout are spread throughout the reservoir but the weed beds along the Thornton arm, wood bank, farm bank & main dam has produced best with cats whiskers, white & green fritz working well during the first few hours of the day but once the temperature goes up anglers using diawl bach, cruncher, stick fly, buzzers, hoppers, sedges & daddies have all taken fish.
Notable catches were made by Nigel Woolnough catching 20 on daddies & pheasant tails, M. Phillis caught 25 on stick fly & zulu, Jamie Turnbull caught over 30 fish from his tube for his weekends fishing, Kevin Swiscoe fishing the weekend from his tube also caught 30 trout, Stuart Thomson fished the weekend catching plenty of trout with his Sunday morning session producing 15 trout. The bank has also started to produce some fish wirh Allan Shearn catching 18 on hoppers, diawl bach & green buzzers from the wood bank.
30 anglers from the Complete Fly Fisher Forum visited the reservoir over the weekend catching an amazing 296 trout between them. The group included anglers from all over the country & one angler from Holland. They couldn’t have picked a better time to visit with the fishing at its very best.
With over 8,567 trout in the reservoir at the moment, that’s 122 trout to the acre, our good sport should continue & I'm looking forward to the next few weeks sport. Booking over the weekend were heavy if your thinking of fishing Thornton during October I recommend you call the lodge to book a boat, if your coming to fish the bank be sure to bring your waders.
