Fishing report week ending 23/09/07
Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday continued to be tough with the rod average for each day a little above 1.3 however Thursday sport started to improve with a rod average of 2.3, Friday continued to get better with a rod average of 2.5 on Saturday & in ideal conditions we averaged 4.7 & Sunday 4.3
With the water temperature down to 16 degrees the clarity improved & the fish responded with fish moving continuously on the surface on Friday, Saturday & Sunday feeding on buzzers (olive, brown or claret) with sedges in the early evening. We are stating to get a few daddies on the water but generally our hatch of daddies this year has been poor.
During the first few hours of the morning boats concentrating their efforts around the weed beds with cats whiskers, white fritz & minkie have caught some early fry feeders but as the day progresses our good buzzer hatches are providing good surface sport from the dam to the wood & down the Markfield arm with boats on the drift enjoying the best of the sport.
Best patterns Cats Whiskers, white frits, buzzers, suspender buzzers, bobs bits, G&H sedge, daddies & muddler with the best of the sport mid morning onwards with an excellent evening rise.
Norma Prime took an afternoon off from helping at the lodge to catch 11 trout on daddies & emergers, Clive Holt fished an evening session to catch 9 on bobs bits, Paddy Fitch caught 12 for his visit while Norman Perkins caught 1 during the morning went for lunch came back & caught 15 during the afternoon, Trevor Pegg fished suspender buzzers to catch 12 while Peter Wrigley & R. Dunster shared a boat to catch 34, Nigel Harvey used a muddler, buzzer & diawl bach to catch 12 while Melvyn Pepper & John Smith shared a boat to catch 32.
Lol Worrell 82 year old member fished the Thornton Arm to catch 12 on buzzers, while P. Moore & A Hurt also shared a boat & fished the Thornton Arm to catch 22 while Gary Hinsley used a cruncher, diawl bach, daddies & bloodworm to catch 14.
Star of the week however was 11 year old Catherine Goode who fished with her father, Catherine cast away all day & was rewarded with 3 trout that took her dry daddy, well done.
With over 8,500 trout in the reservoir the better fishing conditions has improved the fishing dramatically, I fully expect this last week of September & October to give us an excellent Autumn fishing.
