Mayor of Gateshead Competition – Derwent Reservoir
A wild and windy day greeted a terrific turn out to what is proving to be one of the most popular fishing competitions in the region. Andy Kirsop, the events organiser, has done another terrific job in creating awareness of the competition and for motivating a diverse range of local companies to support the event. Andy was also keen to express his thanks to Northumbrian Water for staging the event and providing such a terrific venue.
84 anglers, both multi bait and fly, cast their lines in hope of the catch or fish of the day. The poor conditions did not lend themselves to high catch returns and it soon became apparent that the anglers were going to have to work hard to attract any fish.
The fly anglers had the greatest success with two anglers managing to take eight fish limits. The bait anglers had a more challenging day, with an off shore wind pushing the fish out of range for many of these anglers. Never the less, an enjoyable day was had by all involved and the day was complemented by an impressive raffle and buffet.
The results are as follows:
Fly
1st – R. Hill – 8 fish 15lb
2nd – S. Scott – 8 fish 14lb 4oz
3rd – J. Carr – 5 fish 8lb 9oz
Bait
