Bewl Water Fishery Report Week Ending 20 September 2007
September fishing usually promises a respite from warmer August conditions and this year is no exception as cooler nights and clearer water makes for better sport from boats. The bank is still proving more difficult however as there is weed and algae in some places and the water level is beginning to drop slightly.
A number of 8-fish limits have been caught from boats this week, mostly in the main bowl on or around the bubble and at Chingley, while fishing has also been good at the cages. A good proportion of larger fish kept average fish size 2lbs 4ozs.
Successful flies have been Cat's Whiskers, Hoppers, Daddies, Minkies, Damsels, Hare's Ears and Boobies.
This week's largest fish was a 5lb 12oz rainbow caught by Paul Dutnall on a Daddy at the cages. Ron Davidson netted a 5lb 4oz rainbow on a Fry pattern in the Main Bowl.
Wednesday 12th September is the Bewl Bridge Fly Fishers Annual Invitation Floating Line Match sponsored by Fordham and Wakefield - all 54 boats will be in use with 108 anglers
