Witton Castle Lakes Fishery Report Week Ending 26.8.07
Weather patterns have been to extremes, cold mornings then bright sunshine which has fluctuated throughout certain days.
During the milder periods fish are readily taken off the top or just under the surface . Top water flies have been CDC’s, Diawl Bachs, Black Shipman’s and Small Daddies, which are land borne and are blown onto the surface.
Further down in the water column Damsel Nymphs fished slowly have been very successful.
4 permit anglers have taken fish between 2lbs to 5lbs.
Best fish of the week, returned on a sporting permit was by Dave Conway from Walls End of 17 ½ lbs on a CDC off the top.
“A fish of a lifetime”, was the anglers response.
Anglers are reminded that to enter Trout Masters, at Witton, you cannot enter your fish on a sporting permit as it must be despatched, weighed and witnessed and signed for by the fishery manager on duty at the time.
Geoff Wharton from spennymoor fishing just in the ripple edge, had another cracking day on a sporting permit, returning 15 fish, all on CDC, with a black body of his own tying.
RIVER WEAR.
Back down to low levels, with Seatrout in many pools not even entertaining a fly. More water required to freshen things up a bit and to move on these dour fish.
