Witton Castle Fishery Report Week Ending 20.8.07
Autumn is upon us as the water temperature just start to drop to normal. Fish are grubbing off the bottom and are coming to a slow retrieve with Black and orange Zonkers and cats Whiskers being the order of the day.
On slightly milder days, late evenings and a floating line, long leaders fishing Diawl Bachs, Black Pennell and Klinkhammers and Bumbles , fish are in the 2 ½ lb to 4lb category and they have all been actively feeding.
This baremetric fluctuation doesn’t help at all , however Stuart Hambleton from bishop Auckland coaxed a belter of 18lbs on a Black zonker and completed with a further 2 and a 3 ½ lber .

RIVER WEAR.
Another lift of water came this week and is just fining off into a nice tea colour. However fishing is difficult and virtually impossible at night until these conditions drop even further for night anglers . Reports of some good shoals of salmon coming in on the tide on the lower reaches of the Wear , but are yet to enter the main river and up into our beats. At the moment they are moving in and out on the tide.
